It’s been quite an eventful year since I started blogging (Blogspot, Blorc) some time in June and this is what I rank as the top 10 best blogging stories of 2005.

Here’s my list (starting from #10):

10. Fireangel

Somehow a Fireangle day was created which included a blog dedicated to her plus a dozen or so posts flooding PPS in just a few hours and it was all a result of someone pimping someone and yeah…that’s what it is…don’t ask me why.

She’s not bad looking though. =)

9. CnP wars

With hate blogs being started by some ppl, surely there’s something wrong with cutting-and-pasting! So what is a Cut n Paste (CnP) blog? Here’s quite a good explanation from Chewxy:

Copy n Paste blogs in my definition are those who copy wholesale from product websites and put them in quote boxes.
Usually, CnP blogs have no sense of their own, meaning, they follow this format:

[picture]
1 liner introduction
[quote from product website]
[via source]

But newer forms of CnP blogs are even more evolved. They include their own thoughts, but in no more than 6 sentences. Their new form is something like this :

[picture]
1 liner introduction
[quote]
My thoughts: (4 lines worth of crap that means nothing)
[via source]

All they wanted is to become the boingboing/gizmodo/engadgets of Malaysia but too bad, most bloggers don’t like the idea and yeah, that’s probably the reason why there’s kinda less of them nowadays but there’s more product advertisements though…lol

e.g. the disgustingly low priced offer - US$2/year hosting plan which surprisingly has very few takers! and even the FREE 200Mb/2GB hosting too!

Gosh! How we hate them! =P

8. Toilet Hanky Panky

This is not about Malaysians voting toilets as one of the best places to have sex (according to Durex, a condom manufacturer) but about the Zouk incident whereby a couple was beaten up by the bouncers for doing some “hanky panky” in the males toilet. But according to her blog, she was responding to his call for help in the toilet ‘cos he collapsed in it.

7. Lokap Boy

A student claimed that he was caught and jailed for 22 days in jail… and according to his blog, he’s innocent! Also mentioned how corrupted our police are and how things work in the jail e.g. RM10 for a cigarette. Very interesting!

We were placed near the front of the prison, it was not yet inside, we were made to sit in rows of three. By this time it has been a full half day since we had anything to eat or drink. But none of us were hungry. Then a policeman showed up, a good Samaritan. He offered us some bread and water and proceeded to collect RM10 from all of us. That would mean RM200 +. He came back a half hour later, gave us each a pack of bread and a small bottle of water. Suddenly the angel became a devil. He had pocketed for himself about RM200. Even when we were in such a desperate condition, there are people who would do anything for money. This is no longer greed, his heart had turned black. Mind you, this is a policeman, the very people who are supposed to uphold the right and punish the wrong. The protector of justice, had just become a criminal. And he was walking free… in jail.

6. kahsoon
Unofficially, the most hated man in Malaysian blogosphere…mainly because of his cut-and paste ways and double/triple pinging. But ppl might be ready to forgive him after he announced in PPS that he’s leaving PPS a la “XXX has left the building”.

But a very impressive young man indeed, having earned up to 4 figures in terms of Adsense money in just a matter of months. He has since gone on to become a problogger and also opened up some other interesting blogs like Hottest Blogger, etc.

5. PPS down!

One of the major factors why Malaysian bloggers can create some form of community spirit, PPS went down some time ago due to ping spam i.e. too many pings for the server to handle and as a result nobody can ping it for quite some time.

As a result, PPS-clones appeared e.g. BlogsMalaysia (the ping version), SARA (based on RSS feeds but loads very slow and has a funny domain name called SARAwho?) and Pois Ciche (which has since disappeared, dunno what happened also).

But once PPS was back online, users return to PPS once again, and left the clones to rot. So far, BlogsMalaysia has turned into a blog aggregator thing like Tomorrow.sg and highlights notable blog posts for the public to read.

SARA meanwhile still exists (and is waiting to be serviced by the webmaster who’s gonna have his final exams after New Year and is spending both X’mas and New Year celebrating it with his lecture notes.) and is currently trying out this new digg-like feature in KOREKK!!! which kinda does the same thing as Tomorrow.sg and BlogsMalaysia.com except that it allows the readers to vote if he/she likes it or not and even let her users post an article themselves!

4. SPG boobies

A huge controversy was created when Kenny Sia posted a blog post about SPG (from Singapore) flashing her boobs to the camera resulting in some bloggers to criticise his move. The matter is now largely forgotten, the photo removed and Kenny is well-loved again.

3. Lokap Girl a.k.a. Squatgate

Videos of her started spreading across the blogosphere & by MMS both by excited teenagers and excited politicians and also excited bloggers. Is she Malay or Chinese? Who took the video? Who should the poor girl sue for showing her body to almost the whole of Malaysia and maybe the world?

2. Toiletgate!

This started when a pretty famous blogger, XiaXue from Singapore said something about disabled toilets and why normal ppl can use it which resulted in some bloggers in Malaysia launching a war against her by reporting her to her advertisers. She has since lost 2 out of 3 of her advertisers and also her freelance job in the newspapers.

Be wary of the power of Malaysian toilet users!

1. Dawn Yang/Yeo

Now this is not exactly Malaysian but most Malaysian bloggers talked about it in some way which eventually propelled her to No.1 in technorati search and even caused some “ang-moh” or “gwei-los” to check her out. So what’s the controversy?

Well, some guy found her old photos and compared it with her new ones and they differ so greatly some ppl think that she might have gone for plastic surgery! Well, while I was in JC (yes, I studied in S’pore for awhile, same school, senior batch) I didn’t even noticed her, thought Sun Yanzi’s sister (yes, she looks like her) and the MGS girl (mixed blood, very pretty) she always hangs out with were the most talked about till this revelation came about.

Finally, after almost an hour of writing, that’s the end of KOREKK’s 10 best blogging stories of 2005 - looks like toilets, lokaps and kenny sia made all the headlines. What’s yours?
